A seemingly unlimited selection of things to see and do in Upper Bucks makes it a fantastic vacation spot. From history museums and historical sites, shopping centers and vineyards, to breathtaking scenic spaces and recreational areas, there is something here for every age and interest.

History fans are afforded plenty of opportunities to take a glimpse back in time to the Upper Bucks of the past. A number of historic covered bridges, museums and more can be discovered throughout the area. The Mercer and Fonthill museums are lined with a collection of nearly 40,000 artifacts representing pre-1850 American life. A National Historic Landmark, the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works is a working history museum that continues to produce handmade tiles for purchase. Durham Forge, the Burgess Foulke Home and the Liberty Bell House also appear on the agenda of historic sites to explore.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Quakertown Train Station is among one of the area’s must-see attractions. The newly restored 1902 Reading Railroad passenger terminal served as the largest station between Lansdale and Bethlehem along the company’s Bethlehem Branch, providing riders with a connection to a number of great East Coast areas.

The characteristics of Bucks County’s landscape – gently rolling hills, optimal soils and a moderate climate – has established it as one of the best grape growing regions on the East Coast. Guests can spend a day traveling along the Bucks County Wine Trail, which features eight distinct vineyards and wineries that welcome visitors for tours, tastings and a variety of special events.

Nature enthusiasts relish in the breathtaking beauty of Upper Bucks’ outdoor spaces. The majestic Delaware River, the 549-acre Lake Towhee Park, Nockamixon State Park and the 126-acre Tinicum Park are only a few of the region’s most impressive natural sites.

The 518-acre Quakertown Swamp, an Audubon Society-designated Important Bird Area, is home to the largest great blue heron rookery in the eastern Pennsylvania region, providing refuge for 91 bird species. A stop at the extraordinary Ringing Rocks State Park is a definite as well. In addition to the abundance of recreational diversions accessed here, visitors will experience the park’s “singing” rocks.

Upper Bucks also boasts a variety of charming shops, boutiques and quaint antique outlets, as well as the popular Quakertown Farmers Market and Flea Market, for those in need of a little retail therapy.
