Whether you’re new to the Susquehanna River Valley, or you’ve been here for the last 50 years, I’m glad you have picked up this publication. We’re proud of this 2011 Community Profile and Membership Directory and we hope you’ll find it enjoyable to read and leaf through.
Inside these pages you’ll find a history of each of the communities we hold close to our hearts, which contribute to the culture and values of the Greater Susquehanna Valley as a whole. You’ll find business profiles and guides to the various industries that help us sustain our excellent quality of life, as well as photographs of the beautiful places – our rivers, mountains, forests and farmland – that we call home.
The Chamber works hard everyday to fulfill its mission: To preserve and strengthen the Valley’s business environment and quality of life by providing programs and services that promote civic, social, business and economic growth and development. You’ll find in here a summary of the work we are doing to build a strong regional economy.
Our Chamber membership grew by leaps and bounds last year, as the most successful membership campaign drive in the Chamber’s 93-year history boosted our ranks to more than 775 member organizations. Many of these members work together as volunteers on our committees that work to improve the Valley. The 25 percent-plus growth rate of our ranks is testimony to the success of the services we provide.
The Chamber is known for its strong voice in advocacy. Through our Governmental Affairs and Transportation committees, we have had success in communicating our needs to legislators in Harrisburg and Washington. Meanwhile, the Business and Education Committee repurposed itself last year to focus on bettering the view of the Valley in the eyes of the public and in the media. The Chamber’s communications division is on board with this mission, doing its best to highlight the good in the business community, while sharing with the public how we can succeed economically.
The Chamber’s leadership in economic development is unmatched. We are solely responsible for the success of SIDCO, the Susquehanna Industrial Development Corporation, and SNEED, the Sunbury New Enterprises Expansion Drive – both serving as the collective arm for economic growth. The Chamber also plays a key supporting role with the Mifflinburg Regional Economic Development Alliance, which is dedicated to strengthening the economic vitality of middle Union County, and with the Montour Area Recreation Commission, aiming to grow the tourism sector of the Greater Susquehanna Valley.
We stand centrally located in Shamokin Dam, just a stone’s throw from our namesake river, on U.S. 11 and 15 – the key north-south transportation corridor that connects us to Harrisburg, New York State and much of the East Coast. It is our privilege to serve our Valley towns — Danville, Lewisburg, Middleburg, Mifflinburg, Milton, New Berlin, Northumberland, Selinsgrove and Sunbury — as well as the people in our surrounding townships.
To you I say, use this guide! You’ll find nearly 800 businesses listed here, as well as important information you may not be aware of. If you are new to the area or are considering relocating, this book will certainly help you get your bearings. If you work for a member organization, you are a member! Get involved in one of our committees or come attend one of our premier events – perhaps you would like to join us for a round of golf in June or our economic forecast in October.

If you are considering starting a new business or relocating one here, feel free to give us a call at (570) 743-4100 or (800) 410-2880. We would be more than happy to assist you, and to show you why our Valley is one of the best places in the country to live, work, play and invest. Enjoy this profile, and feel free to visit our website www.gsvcc.org. Join us and let us serve you.
