

With the Susquehanna Valley’s abundant lumber supply, it is no surprise that the wood products industry dominates the region. The industry employs over 11,000 people in central Pennsylvania, with large employers like Wood-Mode Inc., Conestoga Wood Specialties, Bingaman & Sons Lumber and Carriage Manor Builders.
The convenient location and infamous quality of the area’s healthcare centers makes healthcare a lead industry for the area. The region is home to world-class hospitals, outpatient centers and senior living facilities, all within a short drive.
The Valley’s landscape and climate lends itself to a great environment for agriculture. Both food processing and agriculture are key industries for Central Pennsylvania. Big names like Weis Markets Inc., Giant Food Stores LLC and Butter Krust Baking Co./Sara Lee Corp. are major players in the agriculture and food processing market.
The life sciences, high technology and advanced manufacturing industries continue to grow as the area’s centralized location offers a highly competitive advantage. The area’s plentiful resources and skilled and dedicated labor force puts the Susquehanna Valley in a class of its own.
The Susquehanna Valley is home to numerous industrial parks. Each of the four counties has at least one. The latest one to be unveiled is Pawling Station Business Park, located along Route 522 in Selinsgrove. The park is owned by the Susquehanna Industrial Development Corp. (SIDCO), the economic development arm of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The Susquehanna Valley is home to over 524,000 people with more than 345,000 residents of working age living within a 30-mile radius. With a long history in manufacturing and agribusiness, the area’s work force demonstrates superior work ethic, company loyalty and trainability.
