Its unique location in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region offers unparalleled access to major metropolitan markets. Companies that have chosen to locate here include Binney & Smith, which manufactures Crayola crayons and other products; Fort James-Dixie Products, home of the Dixie Cup; Victaulic of America, the world’s leading manufacturer of mechanical pipe components; and International Women’s Apparel, a division of Hartmarx.

Other major employers in the Lehigh Valley are PPL Corp., Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, Air Products & Chemicals, Mack Trucks Inc., Wood Dining Services and Wachovia Bank, all in Allentown; St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network and B. Braun Medical Inc., both in Bethlehem; and KidsPeace, Orefield.

The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. works closely with new and prospective businesses to make every transition smooth. The LVEDC helps each business identify the most attractive financing package available, as well as providing technical support, education and training services, and other forms of assistance.

Three Enterprise Zones in the Lehigh Valley offer additional incentives to business, including financing assistance, tax abatement, job training initiatives and much more. Development is further encouraged through a Keystone Opportunity Zone, which is designed to enhance the business climate and revitalize neighborhoods and educational programs and other opportunities within its borders.

The Lehigh Valley Business/Education Partnership maintains strong connections between educators and the business community, assuring employers of a well-trained, highly educated workforce. The valley also is home to several training centers that prepare workers for a wide variety of skilled and unskilled positions.

The Lehigh Valley is committed to raising its profile in the international marketplace as well. To assist businesses in these efforts, the International Trade Development Program at Lehigh University provides assistance in developing import/export strategies. Additional assistance to business is available through Lehigh University’s Small Business Development Center.

Another service provider, the Lehigh Valley Export Network, helps small businesses expand their sales into overseas markets. This unique public-private partnership gives small businesses access to valuable information to help them maximize their export potential.

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission works diligently to coordinate growth and development while preserving the region’s abundant historic and natural resources.

Employers can draw upon a well-trained workforce of 300,000, knowing that these workers embrace the same proud work ethic that has exemplified this region for generations.
