graphicEvery day is play time in Wayne County. Thanks to our location in the famous Pocono Mountains, a number of private resorts roll out the red carpet for visitors. Top- notch dining, activities and pampering remain the hallmark of our reputation; after all, annual travel revenues add up to more than $200 million, and create more than 3,000 jobs.

The Stourbridge Line Rail Excursions remains a popular highlight among tourists and residents alike. Owned and operated by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, this excursion takes passengers along the historic route paved by the first steam locomotive in the U.S. back in 1829. Choose a one-and-a-hour afternoon ride, or jump aboard for one of our Train Robbery recreations or a special dinner theater offering. graphic

Other area attractions include water parks, boating/canoeing/ kayaking rentals, whitewater rafting excursions, a wild animal park and several riding stables catering to jockeys and novices alike. We even have a raceway to allow daredevil drivers to take their stab at racing speeds.

If you arrive during a special month (that would be any time between January and December), be sure to ask directions to the nearest festival. Perhaps you’ll luck into the Wildflower Music Festival, featuring the beautiful strains of classical music. Our Summer Festival consists of weekly events like traditional Irish music, polka bands, country music acts, barbershop groups, bluegrass and gospel concerts. Or sign the kids up for "Walking on the Wildside at the Lacawak Sanctuary," part of the hands-on Lake Ariel Kids Nature Program.graphic

The Wayne County Fair, held during the first week in August, surpasses all your average expectations of a fair. Big-name acts, like Sawyer Brown, schedule us on their summer concert tours, Hollywood stunt shows bring their daring feats to our fairgrounds and demolition derbies thrill crowds. Expect the unusual as well. In 2003, visitors lined up to watch stockcar football, an action sport that combines the professional driving skill and car performance of local drivers as they work in teams to move a 200-pound, six-foot ball into the opposing team’s end zone, scoring a touchdown. And at a one-price admission schedule (that includes parking, shows, fireworks and all rides), it’s one of the best bargains in the nation.

graphicWhen the sun goes down, Wayne County comes to life, offering everything from murder mystery dinners to spa pampering packages. Resort and hotel concierges know just where to steer you for the perfect ending to your day.

Accommodations range from campgrounds to bed and breakfast/country inns to five-star resorts. Many of our hotel options are locally run, but travelers can find the chain names they recognize as well.
