With 23 sites/streams listed by the Fish Commission, water is a huge highlight in Wayne County. Lake Wallenpaupack (52 miles of shoreline) and the Delaware River reside within our boundaries, along with several dozen glacial lakes and hundreds of impoundments (more lakes than any other county in Pennsylvania). The Delaware River, in particular, is classified as a National Scenic & Recreational River, although most of the land surrounding it is privately owned, not government controlled.
Wayne County enjoys a four-season climate, with average temperatures ranging from lows in the teens in winter to the 80s in the summer. Average annual precipitation is 39 inches, with snowfall ranging from 55 to 75 inches depending on location and elevation. So when the temperature cools, downhill and cross-country skiers rejoice at the chances to play on our mountainsides. Snowmobiling and ice fishing, too, attract a good number of fans, and the hunting opportunities for deer, black bear and turkey abound.
