Agriculture may be the number one industry in Wayne County, but other industries have discovered the profit-producing opportunities of our region as well. For instance, manufacturing accounts for more than 1,500 jobs currently, with the lumber industry leading the way. Sustained growth policies mean the paper and furniture specialists can plan on a lifetime and beyond of natural resources for their niches.

The Stourbridge Railroad, which spans 26 miles from Honesdale to Lackawaxen (where it can transfer loads to Conrail, Susquehanna and Western Railways for national shipment), also gives Wayne County a distinct business advantage.

Speaking of advantages, several community banks in the area extend more than family-friendly checking accounts, they’re willing to go above and beyond to help entrepreneurs secure the funds they need to start and grow a business successfully.

• An Average of 10 applications for every job opening.
• Turnover rates of less than five percent.
• Absenteeism rates of less than five percent.

Forty-one percent of the county’s workers travel less than 15 minutes, and 73 percent spend less than 30 minutes travelling to work.

In addition to an outstanding workforce, our region draws from the best of the old and the new economies. The Web-based "new" economy lives on telecommunications.
