
Most of the Greater West Chester community is served by the West Chester Area School District, which is composed of 10 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. Five of the aforementioned schools have won the prestigious Blue Ribbon Awards of Excellence from the U.S. Department of Education, while students on all levels have placed in various regional, county, state and national competitions. The West Chester Area School District takes pride in its challenging curriculum, excellent staff, rich heritage and active, involved parents. Several private schools and day care facilities are also available.
For those pursuing higher education, West Chester is home to West Chester University, the second largest of the 14 institutions of higher learning that compose the State System of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. West Chester University offers degrees in the arts and sciences, teacher training and certification, advanced study preparation in fields such as medicine and law, education for specific professions, and continuing education. Other nearby colleges and universities include Delaware County Community College, Penn State University (Great Valley campus), Cheyney University, Lincoln University and Immaculata University.
