Historic Wickford village, nestled along the waterfront, offers a taste of New England life as it was over a century ago. Over forty unique shops join with a large residential historic district to give visitors a relief from our hurried lives today. During the summer
months a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and throughout the tree
lined streets will undoubtedly give you a refreshing understanding of
the unique history held within our community. From the historic Old Narragansett
Church (rolled to its present site in 1800) to the fleet of small quahog
skiffs located at the end of Main Street, you can easily picture the bustling
life when Wickford was a valuable port in yesteryear. In July, Wickford
is host to the annual Wickford Art Festival, renowned throughout the country
as one of the best. Many boaters and sailors find Wickford an ideal stop
on a cruise through New England waters as the shopping and leisurely pace
are hard to beat! The first weekend in December, the village merchants bring the village aglow during the annual Festival of Lights. Their efforts to combine quality, customer service and unique merchandise makes the village a true holiday destination. While Wickford village served as the historic anchor for our commercial district, in this past century Post Road has become the main North/South artery and leading commercial district for everyday shopping needs as well. The US Post Office has relocated to Post Road just north of the village and joins with our many service businesses for our residents and visitors. New development along Post Road has led to a revival of this area of town. With the relocation of Rte 4, Ten Rod Road area has begun to serve as our east/west artery giving the new residential developments in the southwest corner of town easy access to the rest of our community. Our largest shopping center- Wickford Junction is still expanding to meet the needs of our community and surrounding areas. A variety of dining experiences are available in North Kingstown ranging from the well known national chains to our historic restaurants known for seafood, ambiance and quality. Whether youre looking for a great family restaurant, or a special occasion restaurant, both of your needs can be met within our community.
