The Fishing Cove School houses the towns pre-school and kindergarten program. This innovative educational structure will optimize the childs preparedness for first grade and beyond. The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program is an award winning child development education program for all families with children (Infant-5). Our six neighborhood elementary schools support a strong basic education for grades 1 through 5 including the following programs: Young Authors, RI Reading Week, Artist-in-Residence, National Math League, Presidential Academic Fitness Award, D.A.R. Writing Contest, Project D.A.R.E. and the Academic Decathlon. Both middle schools are organized under the concept of interdisciplinary teaming. Teams consist of two to five teachers of the academic subjects-language arts, reading, mathematics, science and social studies. They also offer programs in Intramural Sports, Interscholastic Sports, Band and Chorus.
Recent average SAT scores at the high school were 1060 (Math 524, Verbal 536) with 73% of the student body taking the SATs. Of the recent graduating class, 58% will attend four year colleges, and 15% will attend two year colleges. General services provided in the district include bus transportation to all qualified students with bus monitors on all kindergarten and elementary buses, after school child care provided by the South County YMCA, Child Opportunity Zones(COZ) in both Davisville & Forest Park Elementary Schools, a self-supporting Parent-Teacher Resource Center, the volunteer group- LINKS- Laymen in North Kingstown Schools, hot lunch program available at all schools and a variety of programs and services for students requiring special education. The school district, in conjunction with the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce, also sponsors the Business/Education Partnership Program. This unique program directly links the business community to our schools in a variety of projects including career awareness, drop-out prevention, and mentor programs. North Kingstown also has an Adult Education Program which began in1991 as an effort to offer life long learning opportunities to the residents of town. The program offers a wide variety of educational, enrichment, and self-development courses ranging from computers, dancing, languages, woodworking, internet, office skills, and craft programs.
