mapOur area is well-served by interstates 1-95 & 1-20, both within 10 miles or less. Our proximity to Columbia (78 miles), Charlotte (99 miles), Florence (15 miles), Myrtle Beach (80 miles), Charleston, (120 miles), and Greenville (I74) gives Greater Darlington an obvious advantage over most areas.

Darlington County also has a Jetport and the Florence Regional airport, plus AMTRAK passenger rail service in neighboring Florence. We have a strong rail service, numerous trucking companies and other public transportation available.

Major area employers include Wellman, Inc., Nucor Steel, Fort James, Galey & Lord, Sara Lee Hosiery and Craig Industry. Increased capital investment by new and existing industries in Darlington County totaled more than $62 million and created over 300 new jobs in 1998. Unemployment is at an all-time low.

Our community is well-balanced in that we are rich in agriculture, industry, and tourism with the racing industry. Darlington County is already home to three industrial parks - our community is growing and the future looks bright as Darlington County anticipates greater business development.

tourismThe Darlington Raceway hosts two weekend events each year. The Southern 500 NASCAR race is the largest one-day tourist event in the state of South Carolina, bringing 100,000+ fans to the area to see this exciting race and tour the Stock Car Hall of Fame-Joe Weatherly Museum. In addition, the Darlington Dragway hosts one of the biggest races on the IHRA Snap-On Tools Drag Racing Series.

We have excellent recreation complexes, golf courses. tennis, and a beautiful, 60-acre Williamson Park.
