
Laurens County has numerous recreational venues throughout the county, including a combination of baseball/softball fields, children’s play areas, tennis courts, picnic areas, and basketball courts. A skating rink, bowling lanes, and public swimming pools are available. Two YMCAs are accessible, and both coordinate adult and youth recreational leagues in the county.
Laurens Speedway offers auto racing from April through September. Darlington International Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway are easy drives from Laurens County.
Hunting opportunities are available on private and leased lands, and in Sumter National Forest. The national forest lands also offer off-highway vehicle trails, hiking, horseback riding and canoeing.
Skeet shooting, turkey, deer, quail and other hunting packages, as well as lodging and meeting facilities, are available at Harris Springs Sportsman’s Preserve between Cross Hill and Waterloo. The Clinton House Plantation, located two miles off I-26 on Hwy. 56 north of Clinton, offers bird and duck hunting, deer and turkey hunts, and corporate meeting and conference facilities.
Laurens County has two private 18-hole golf courses: Musgrove Mill, an Arnold Palmer World Class Championship Course, chosen as one of the top modern courses in the U.S. by Golfweek magazine, and Lakeside Country Club, which also has swimming and tennis. Rolling S Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course. There are more than 50 golf courses in the Upstate, all of which are within a short drive of Laurens County, and Augusta, home of The Masters, is only a couple of hours down the road.
You might not think about traveling south to ski, but Laurens County is a short drive away from such beautiful mountain resorts as Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Ober Gatlinburg.
Private and public lakes are numerous, including Lake Greenwood, with over 200 miles of shoreline, and Lake Rabon, as well as the Enoree and Saluda Rivers which provide excellent fishing and boating. Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Hilton Head make ideal weekend getaways. Laurens County is also a short drive away from the Great Smoky Mountains.
There are 12 parks in the county, which offer recreational opportunities for children. The parks provide playground equipment and some offer picnic shelters, basketball courts, and ball fields.
Baseball, football, basketball, and soccer are available through the local high schools and Presbyterian College. Atlantic Coast and Southeastern Conference sports are within a one-hour drive at Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. Greenville, less than an hour’s drive from Laurens County, offers minor league hockey. Charlotte, North Carolina offers professional football with the Carolina Panthers.
