Lake Jocassee, a deep coldwater lake, is nationally known for its trout population and is fast becoming a popular spot for bass fishermen as well. Lakes Hartwell and Keowee have long been popular stops for anglers, boaters and campers. The moderate climate makes it possible to enjoy most activities year-round. But for those who prefer a more challenging recreational environment, some of the finest ski resorts in the country are within easy driving distance. Along Scenic Highway 11 in northern Pickens County, Table Rock and Keowee State Parks abound in beauty and adventures. Both offer camping, cabin rentals, and access to some of the finest hiking trails in the Southeast.
Four local golf courses and country clubs find greens in scenic settings for golfers' enjoyment. Organized sports are many and varied, with municipal and community recreation departments offering a wide range of team and individual sports opportunities. Churches and industry also provide recreational opportunities for ages 5 to 95. For those who prefer spectator sports, Pickens County offers a wide variety of activities year round, from major college competition at Clemson University to auto racing at a number of area tracks.
