The most recent census records show that 57.2 percent of the 93,000+ people in Pickens County are members of one of the local churches. The predominant denominations are Baptist (33,752 members) and United Methodist (6,107), but virtually all faiths are represented among the population. Other prominent churches in the county include Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Church of God, Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Mennonite, Pentecostal Holiness, and Seventh Day Adventist. Synagogues are also available in nearby Greenville. United Christian Ministries, based in Easley, is an ecumenical ministry composed of 78 churches of all denominations working together to provide for families in emergency situations. UCM provides such things as food, clothing, assistance with rent payment, utility bills and other bills to families in need. The community is enhanced by the dynamic diversity of church activities, from worship services to bazaars, fairs, retreats, youth groups and activities for all ages.
