Spartanburg County residents know that the quality of life in the area is virtually unrivaled. From the simplistic splendor of historic Walnut Grove Plantation and the Price House to the glitz of a Broadway play at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, opportunities are plentiful for cultural enrichment.

Many performances and events ranging from art shows to ballet to symphonic concerts and repertory theater are possible through the Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg. Nine leading arts organizations receive support from the Partnership, including the Artists’ Guild, the Ballet Guild, the Music Foundation, the County Arts Association, the Little Theater and the Science Center. Local university, college, and independent stage troupes also provide outlets. Converse College’s Twichell Auditorium and the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium have been the sites of numerous performances by world-renowned musicians and performers, including Bob Dylan, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Garrison Keillor, and touring presentations of such Broadway hits as "Cats" and "A Chorus Line."

Downtown Spartanburg’s Spring Fling, held each May, kicks off a string of gatherings that provide fun, food, and fellowship for those who enjoy outdoor events. Other popular events are International Festival, Inman’s Harvest Festival, Walnut Grove’s Festival, and the Tri-Pacolet area’s Indian Summer Festival. In addition, Music on Main, a series of free outdoor concerts, is held weekly April-May and August-September in downtown Spartanburg.

Summertime is Panther time in Spartanburg – the Carolina Panthers, that is. The summer training camp, held from mid-July until the end of August, offers residents and visitors a chance to get up-close with players and coaches. Over 85,000 visitors have visited the camp in the past five years. Media from around the country and the globe spend their summers here, broadcasting and writing stories datelined "SPARTANBURG."
