Rapid City is jam-packed with attractions to please both the young and young at heart. Storybook Island turns fairytales into life-size adventures. Spread over eight acres, 140 favorite legendary fables are depicted with large colorful figures. The children’s theater at Storybook Island brings these stories to life.

The nearly 40 year-old Stavkirke Chapel, dubbed the “Chapel in the Hills” is a reproduction of the Borgund Church in Norway. This famous icon complements the already stunning terrain surrounding it. The Berlin Wall Exhibit features two sections of the famous wall and is located at Memorial Park. The historic downtown area of Rapid City is sprinkled with life-size bronze statues of past presidents. The Journey Museum tells the story of the formation of the Black Hills and the Western Frontier.

The Museum of Geology is a fascinating display of all things geological. Fossils and skeletons found in South Dakota tell the story of long ago. A multitude of sights to see and places to visit include Black Hills Caverns, Old MacDonalds’s Farm, Bear Country U.S.A., Crystal Cave Park and Cosmos Mystery Area. Famous attractions such as Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, the Badlands National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, Custer State Park and Bear Butte State Park are situated not too far from Rapid City.

Rapid City has an amazing recipe for delightful dining. Eateries permeate the area, featuring flavors from all over the world such as Asian Indian, Chinese, Cajun, European, Filipino, Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean and Mexican. American favorites are always a hit! Many of the area’s attractions have their own restaurant on premises so travelers can stop for a bite to eat and continue to explore.

Delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert are made possible by a plethora of easting establishments. Fresh bagels spread with tasty cream cheese plus with a warm cappuccino equals a warming breakfast from a local coffee house. A few hours later, lunch at a deli, sub shop, burger joint or pizza place curbs afternoon hunger and makes it easy to keep on touring the town. After a full day of trekking through the city is the perfect time for a relaxing sit-down meal at one of the fine dining establishments in Rapid City. For dessert, or just a cool treat, a cone topped with yummy ice cream is the way to go.

Annual events bring people together to honor the culture and history of Rapid City. Native American traditions shine in the Black Hills Powow in October. Black Hills Bluegrass Festival fills the air with lively tunes that get people dancing in the month of June. Central States Fair in August encompasses a carnival, melodious musical acts, a demolition derby, rodeo and much more. The Fat Tire Festival rides on through the hills every spring. Many more exciting events and celebrations take place year-round.
