Healthcare

Rapid City’s medical community is anchored by the not-for-profit, community-based Rapid City Regional Hospital, an organization that has, over the years, grown into a significant healthcare network of several hospitals, clinics, assisted living centers, nursing homes and support services facilities. The system serves a 250-mile radius in the Black Hills region, with more than 40 medical facilities that span western South Dakota, eastern Wyoming and Nebraska’s panhandle.

The hospital itself is licensed for 310 acute-care beds, as well as 56 psychiatric beds, and offers a full spectrum of medical care. Significant services available through the Rapid City Regional Hospital include: Emergency Care, Surgery, Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Behavioral Health, Intensive Care, Obstetrics, Neonatal Intensive Care, Sleep Disorders, Senior Care, Endocrinology and more.

Located adjacent to Rapid City Regional Hospital is the esteemed John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute. The facility opened in 1993 and has since provided cancer care to more than 10,000 patients. Inpatient and outpatient medical and radiation oncology, laboratory and imaging, and clinical trial research round out the services available through the Cancer Care Institute. Further centers of excellence include the Regional Behavioral Health Center and the Regional Rehabilitation Institute.

Additional prominent medical resources in the area include the 32-bed Sioux San Hospital and the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute, which provides modern eye care to the region, plus teaching and research opportunities.
