Since 1995, Killeen has built almost 7,000 new residential units, including single-family homes as well as duplexes, townhouses and apartments. Although homes in Killeen can be found for up to $500,000 or more, the average price of a three-bedroom, two-bath home in 2002 was $73,208. Prospects are that there will be wide choices for housing for years to come.

Since 1996, the City of Killeen has approved plats for a number of new subdivisions, creating 7,243 new lots. In 1996 alone, 3,338 new lots were created, and a number of those lots are still available for building sites.

The good part is that, because of the ideal terrain for home construction, cost of a lot and home is much less in Killeen than in other areas.

Growth in housing is expected to continue as the City of Killeen expands its infrastructure, especially to the south. Where new infrastructure is available, subdivisions immediately follow. The city works very closely with Killeen Independent School District in the location of schools to serve the growing population and the new housing areas.

Killeen is entering into a new form of housing with a gated community now being built.

The city also has been able to keep pace with needs for low-income housing and for housing for the elderly.

There are numerous real estate companies to help with the selection of a new home in Killeen. Those who are chamber members are listed and can be found by going to the chamber website, www.gkcc.com, and clicking on the membership directory.
