Everyones
favorite Bellville Chamber of Commerce sponsored event is the Small Town
Christmas Festival that is celebrated on the first Saturday of December
each year. Various area businesses decorate the trees that surround the
Mini-Park, which is located just off the Square. On Friday evening the
Chamber sponsors a snowfall for children of all ages in the Mini Park
Santa Claus arrives and all the stores host "Open House" with
seasonal refreshments for one and all. On Saturday entertainment is provided
by local vocal artists, a combination Bellville High School/Junior High
School band, local theatrical groups, and a group of strolling carol singers
dressed in the style of Victorian England. More than 50 seasonal arts
and crafts exhibitors set up their booths around Bellvilles Historic
Courthouse Square and local non-profit groups are on hand with some great
food. Members of the Austin County Chapter of the American Cancer Society
host a Homes Tour on both Saturday and Sunday.
The
Bellville merchants sponsor two events each year. "Spring Bells are
Ringing" is celebrated the first Saturday in May, and "Autumn
Bells are Ringing" is celebrated on the first Saturday in November.
The spring event features artisans demonstrating their craft, in or adjacent
to the various stores on the Square. The fall event features sidewalk
sales, a pumpkin pie baking contest, a citywide garage sale, special entertainment,
and more.
The
first weekend in September is set aside for the Annual Bellville Swap
Meet. Antique cars and car parts are in abundanceas are the crowds
of folks that enthusiastically browse the booths in search of a needed
component for a vehicle they are restoring.
The Austin County Fair Parade is held on
the second Thursday in October, the official opening day of the celebrated
Fair. The first Fair was held in 1927. The event has grown in popularity
and notoriety, due to the big name Nashville stars that have appeared
in the entertainment line-up.
Bellville is home to two large antique shows
each year. Since 1980 the Bellville Historical Society has hosted their
Country Antiques Festival on the fourth weekend of October. The third
weekend of March is the weekend of the Bellville Antiques Show. Each event
is unique in its own way; both draw more than 80 dealers from all over
the U.S. and thousands of antique enthusiasts from all over Texas.
In addition to various events celebrated
annually, the Bellville Chamber of Commerce sponsors a monthly Market
Day on the Square, which is held the first Saturday of each month.
