DeSoto’s location makes it accessible to a number of public and private colleges for students seeking a higher education.

Located at 7300 Houston School Road, the University of North Texas Dallas Campus (972-780-3600) offers four-year degree programs and graduate studies in counseling and student services, information science and library science. The UNT Dallas Campus Weekend College program provides working adults and traditional students greater flexibility to meet their educational goals.

This program offers undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in programs such as business, criminal justice, education and sociology.

On-site enrollment at the University of North Texas Dallas Campus has reached an all time high headcount of 1,876 students, which represents a 22 percent increase over the previous year’s enrollment. The campus reached 815.4 full-time equivalents, a 32.2 percent increase over the previous year’s enrollment. Under Texas state law, the UNT Dallas Campus will earn free-standing status when student full-time equivalent enrollment exceeds 1,000.

UNT Dallas Campus also confers certification and endorsements, including alternative dispute resolution, diversity, information processing, technology teaching and technology applications. The campus houses three computerized classrooms, which allows for computer-aided instruction. It also offers videoconference classes.

Cedar Valley College is located in southern Dallas County, just south of I-20. It’s one of seven colleges in the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). More than 4,000 students benefit from its comprehensive curriculum, which includes for credit academic transfer career programs and non-credit continuing education courses such as real estate, computer technology, foreign language and music.

Cedar Valley’s award winning architecture and careful attention to landscaping have given the college a reputation for being one of the most scenic business sites in the Dallas area. The campus plan takes advantage of the site’s natural beauty, which includes a gazebo and a pedestrian walk along two sides of a 17-acre lake. Cedar Valley has a 350-seat performance hall, gymnasium, baseball field, and a surgery facility and barn for the Veterinary Technology program.

Mountain View College (214-860-8805), is located at 4849 W. Illinois Avenue in Dallas. As part of the Dallas County Community College District, Mountain View College is advancing Dallas’ tradition of excellence in education through high quality programs in teaching, learning, and service. They offer a unique experience that will help you achieve your dreams.

Mountain View College offers a diverse learning community, and a student body that reflects the face of our society. As a Hispanic Serving Institution they have been able to create programs geared at increasing participation in higher learning, specifically in the arena of math, science, teacher preparation and nursing.

Northwood University (972-293-5457), located at 1114 W. FM 1382 in Cedar Hill, is The Business School for aspiring business professionals. Northwood offers the latest business curriculum and a special philosophy that guides almost everything they do.

The Texas campus opened in 1966 and is situated in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The campus is nestled on 350 acres and situated atop the highest point in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Scores of Northwood students prepare for productive and successful careers as future leaders in various industries and communities.

In addition to academics, there are many ways to be involved on campus. There are varsity and intramural sports, professional and social clubs, organizations, and special events. Every year students produce fashion shows, the Haunted Forest, the Sanity Inn Talent Show, and more.

DeSoto residents also enjoy easy access to other Metroplex universities, including Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, the University of Dallas and the University of Texas at Dallas and Arlington.

Less than 30 minutes away, the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical School/Children’s Medical Center/Parkland Health & Hospital System complex offers specialized higher education in medical fields.
