Methodist Charlton Medical Center is located in suburban southwest Dallas, just over the DeSoto border. This modern teaching and community hospital has served the thriving community in far southwest Dallas County since 1975. It was one of the first hospitals in Dallas to use the Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) concept, and conducts one of only four Family Practice Medical Residency programs in the area.

They are proud to offer the latest in medical technology and innovative treatments, close to your home. Their areas of distinction include:

• A newly renovated Intensive Care Unit that features some of the latest equipment and technology with larger rooms to allow more space for equipment and visiting family members
• A radiology department that offers sophisticated diagnostic and treatment technologies, including ultrasounds, CT scans, interventional radiology, PET scans, and nuclear medicine scans
• A cardiac catheterization lab that serves as the only full-service interventional cardiology center in southwest Dallas County
• A fertility center that offers a vast array of testing, treatment, and reproduction services

Methodist Charlton is currently undergoing extensive facility updates to better serve you and your family.

In 2006, Methodist Dallas Medical Center had 4,035 patient visits from DeSoto residents, and Methodist Charlton Medical Center had 14,073. With comprehensive health care practically right next door, Methodist is proud to be a neighbor of DeSoto.

Methodist Health System is committed to improving the health and quality of life of the residents of the communities they serve. Some of the educational activities they support in partnership with the DeSoto Chamber include the Chamber’s annual New Teacher Reception, annual Health & Wellness Conference, annual Chamber Golf Classic, and annual Awards Gala.

Medical Center at Lancaster (MCL) is located just across the interstate, in Lancaster. A 90-bed, acute care hospital, MCL provides 24-hour emergency services; inpatient and outpatient surgery; cardiac and intensive care; inpatient geriatric psychiatry; outpatient senior behavioral health; inpatient dialysis; and inpatient/outpatient cardiac, pulmonary, and physical rehabilitation services. The Radiology Department offers around-the-clock services with CT scan, bone density, MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography, and interventional radiology.

The JCAHO accredited hospital has approximately 300 employees and over 100 board certified or board eligible physicians on its medical staff. The medical staff’s strengths include primary care and internal medicine, cardiology, obstetrics, gynecology, nephrology, urology, pediatrics, emergency medical care, general surgery as well as orthopedic surgery, but the staff is fully represented for all other specialties for consultation purposes as patient needs arise.

It is expected that improvements to MCL will total $20 million over the next five years including expansion and upgrading of surgical capacity, addition of inpatient and rehabilitation beds, and significant improvements to patient accommodations. In addition, a new medical office building is planned.

In March 2004, the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the city of DeSoto, established the Southwest Medical District. The District embraces a multi-use concept with numerous medical offices, apartments, senior housing, and financial institutions — all within walking distance of Methodist Charlton Medical Center. Since its inception, the Southwest Medical District has seen substantial growth with new office complexes opening and several more in the planning stages. There has been additional growth along the Hwy 67 corridor leading into the Southwest Medical District. DeSoto recognizes that the health and welfare of its citizens has a dramatic impact on the quality of life we all enjoy. Promoting new and existing health services is just one of the many ways the Desoto Chamber of Commerce is promoting the city.

DeSoto also boasts an assisted living center and several home healthcare agencies and nursing homes. Comprehensive healthcare coverage is rounded out by physical therapy clinics, chiropractic centers, eye and dental facilities, imaging centers and hospice organizations.
