The 2006 theme for the Chamber was “You are an Essential Piece.” Illustrating the theme, former Chamber president Will Lunsford noted, if you take a puzzle and remove a piece, the puzzle will remain intact. As pieces are removed, the puzzle becomes less stable and ineffective. As a whole; however, the impact and representation is the strongest. Now in its 89th year and 350 members strong, the Graham Chamber of Commerce is deeply immersed in the community.
Envision a safety net of commerce, where prospective families and businesses survey a community to determine if this is a place where they would like to live and work; one would want to know about the caliber of schools, medical care, banking, shopping, the service sector, churches, community events and organizations. Each entity is a strand of that safety net, and the Chamber’s role is to strengthen and reinforce that net. Providing visitor and relocation information is an integral part of undergirding that net. Helping families “plug into the community” is a key factor in improving the quality of life for our new residents.
Teddy Young, owner of Sassy Lady, a boutique on the square, is fond of saying, “Graham is on the Grow.” This is reflected in the multiple expansion projects already underway for the Graham Independent School District and the Graham Regional Medical Center. New homes are being built, new business construction is on the rise, and sales tax receipts are steadily increasing. I agree with Teddy, “Graham is on the Grow,” and it is a great place to live, work and play. I invite you to come grow with us.
