
With three elementary schools, one junior high school, one high school, and an alternative high school, Graham Independent School District (GISD) offers big city academics in a small-town atmosphere. Graham ISD has long been recognized for outstanding academic achievement, strong community support for education, and a relentless commitment to excellence in the classroom. GISD has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency for outstanding academic achievement including test scores, low dropout rates, high completion rates, and high student attendance. GISD is a recognized school district and each campus has earned the “recognized” rating by the Texas Accountability System standards. Graham High School has a storied tradition of excellence in athletics and academics including football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, track, golf, one-act play, UIL Academic Competitions, and ACT/SAT scores that are above the state and national averages.
GISD has launched an impressive $11 million dollar campaign to upgrade instructional facilities, including building a new elementary school, new maintenance and transportation center, renovation of Graham Junior High School, and renovation of Crestview and Woodland Elementary schools. In tandem with the Graham Education and Workforce Center, Graham ISD offers the opportunity for students to graduate from Graham High School with up to 36 college credit hours toward their four-year or associate’s degree, vocational or technical certification, or career and job placement counseling. Patterned after the exemplary public schools, the Graham Education & Workforce Center (GEWC) provides unique opportunities for the community. GEWC is located on the former Shawnee Elementary Campus which has been renovated by the Knowledge Base Foundation of Graham, Texas. The education and workforce center is unique to Graham and is a model concept for the state of Texas. GEWC seeks to provide lifelong learning opportunities for citizens of Graham and the surrounding region. Partners in this unique, nationally recognized endeavor include the Texas Workforce Commission and their local office, Workforce Resource, Texas Business and Education Coalition, Graham Independent School District and community colleges and universities in the region.
The GEWC hosts community college classes, university classes, workforce training endeavors and other business improvement activities. Locally, the GEWC partners with the Graham Industrial Association and the Graham Chamber of Commerce to provide leadership to the Graham community for economic development and the improvement of our quality of life. Library of Graham
The municipally owned Library of Graham is one of the largest and best equipped libraries in the entire country for a community the size of Graham. The current 14,000-sq.-ft. facility was completed in 1993 at a cost of $1,300,000. The library offers more than 50,000 titles for adults, children, and young people.
Special programming for children is provided, especially in the summer months. A spacious meeting room, seating more than 70 persons and provided with projection and sound equipment, is used for various community programs, and is available for use at a slight charge for organizations. The library is a member of the North Texas Regional Library System, and with this consortium can access over 12 million books through interlibrary loan.
