The Graham Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Graham Independent School District, facilitates the “Helping Our Students to Succeed” program at Graham High School. HOSTS material is presented in four sessions spread throughout the school year. Curriculum revolves around workforce readiness, career selection, real life economics, the development of “soft skills” and participation in the Texas Scholars Program.
Forty-eight business and community leaders are paired with teachers from the high school and volunteer their time to mentor one class of students through all four years of their high school career. Curriculum is provided by the Chamber and is written by a team which includes Greg Dies, Executive Director of the Graham Industrial Association, Cheryl Groves, Executive Director of the Graham Education and Workforce Center, Roger Mooney, Manager of the Workforce Resource Center and Robin Raney, prior Executive Director of the Graham Chamber of Commerce. Peyton Styles, Student Intern at the Graham Chamber of Commerce, served as the student advisor on the project.
The HOSTS program was named the 2003 and 2004 Education Program of the Year by the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives and the Texas Association of Business.
