Chamber President Welcome Letter

president

Everyone, it seems, has a story about Graham. For some they are, “just passin’ through,” while others have recently made Graham their home. I am a fourth generation Grahamite. My great grandfather settled in the area around 1880 in the area of Tonk Valley just southwest of Graham. All four generations have been involved in agriculture or commercial agribusiness since the turn of the 20th century. Today, agriculture is still a main staple of the area economy.

As I meet people in my travels, it is remarkable how many people know someone from Graham. There is a common thread that runs deep in the community and seems to branch hundreds of miles in all directions. There is an old saying, “many towns are a great place to be…… from,” referring of course that, just as quick as one could, one needed to leave town and not look back. Graham is the contradiction. Generation after generation return to Graham to raise their families and make the lake country their home.

The founding fathers and their ancestors established a rich tradition of reinvesting back into the infrastructure of the community. It is the continued benevolence of these families and many other private citizens that have helped Graham earn its nickname, “The North Star of Texas.” This generosity, along with forward-thinking city leadership, guided Graham with continued improvements of our medical facilities, distinguished library, senior citizens center, city pool and parks. Most recently, Graham has expanded the Young County Arena with a second indoor arena and accompanying stalls. This magnificent facility will draw guests for years to come.

It is truly a unique town. It is a great place to do business and raise a family. It is the comfort of knowing your children’s teachers by their first name, and convenience of being less than two hours from one of the worlds’ busiest airports. This same place is within 15 minutes of the clear waters of Possum Kingdom Lake and in the middle of some the best hunting that Texas has to offer. It just doesn’t get any better.
