The arts play an important role in the lives of Henderson residents. The Henderson Civic Theatre, housed in the historic (and reportedly haunted) Opera House, presents a full season of comedy, drama and musical performances each year. And everyone will want to be sure to mark their calendars to see the original melodrama written and produced especially for the Syrup Festival every November.
The London Museum and Tea Room memorializes the 1937 explosion that killed 311 students and teachers at the New London Junior-Senior High School. The tragedy spurred the Texas Legislature to pass a law requiring gas utilities to add an odor to the undetectable natural gas.
The four-acre Depot Museum complex houses both the Rusk County History Museum and the Children’s Discovery Center. The museum hosts a self-guided, hands-on learning tour of the area’s history.
