Caring for the Community
The Greater Hewitt-Waco area is served by two fully accredited, not-for-profit hospitals. Health care for Hewitt residents includes two clinics that serve the medical needs of the community. Scott and White Clinic and Hillcrest Medical Clinic, both on Hewitt Drive, are satellites of larger medical facilities nearby.
Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco was founded in 1920 by the Waco Baptist Association and is a full-service hospital providing maternity and newborn care, the Fentress Cancer Research Center and a rehabilitation center. Its adjoining tower houses a number of physicians and specialists.
Providence Health Center, located within the Midway Independent School District, is a medical and surgical facility with an adjoining psychiatric and substance abuse treatment center. Providence also includes the Women's and Children's Center, which offers obstetric, pediatrics and women's services and was opened in October 1996.
Two additional hospitals, Scott and White Memorial and Kings Daughters, are located 30 minutes south of Hewitt in Temple. Waco is also the home of the Veterans Administration Hospital, which has 433 beds. There are more than 300 doctors in 45 areas of study in the Greater Hewitt-Waco area. Medical clinics are located throughout Hewitt and Waco for convenient services seven days a week.
