Serving the Area
The City of Hewitt is a home rule city, as of April 3, 1982, in which the population of over 5,000 passed a home rule charter establishing the city’s governmental structure.
Hewitt uses the council-manager form of government, with seven members on the City Council. The council works in partnership with citizens and other public departments to provide a solid infrastructure, positive economic potential, and consistently safe neighborhoods.
One example of citizen commitment is the Hewitt volunteer fire department. The firefighters raise funds through an annual fish fry to help the city purchase state-of-the-art firefighting and rescue equipment.
Another example of Hewitt’s forward-thinking is its Recycling and Beautification Committee, which promotes turning trash into cash through its Curbside Project. Hewitt was the first city in Central Texas to adopt a full curbside recycling program, whose proceeds are used to fund the Hewitt Library and beautification projects.
