Kaufman Poor Farm Project
The Poor Farm was created in November of 1883 in order to provide impoverished residents with a work program, along with food, shelter and medical attention. The farm operated until the 1970s and today, the Poor Farm and what is left of the original buildings are leased by the Kaufman County Historical Commission. Current plans call for transforming the farm into a museum featuring walking tours and living history demonstrations.
