Lake Travis Location and Transportation
Lake Travis is situated in the Heart of Central Texas on the Colorado River approximately 20 miles northwest of Austin. Touted as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin is the largest city in Travis County and is also the County Seat.
The major automobile traffic thoroughfare is Interstate 35 which runs north-south through the Austin metropolitan area, and connects travelers northbound to Dallas and southbound to San Antonio. Interstate 10 runs east-west through Texas from Houston to El Paso and can be easily accessed south of the Austin area. Four other federal highways (79, 90, 183 and 290) allow easy transport to other areas of the region, including the Texas Hill Country. Houston and Dallas are approximately three hours by car from the Lake Travis area, while a trip to or from San Antonio is a scenic hour or two by car.
Visitors to Lake Travis can take advantage of air travel via Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). Located near the intersection of highways 71 and 183, ABIA is a modern airport alive with the sounds and tastes of Central Texas. Showcasing several of Austin’s live music acts and most popular local restaurants in the main terminal, ABIA provides domestic, international, and commercial air services and also serves to house the Texas Army National Guard. Upon arriving at ABIA, visitors can choose from several different ground transportation offerings including limousines, buses, shuttles, taxi cabs and car rentals.
