Quality Education

Oak Cliff offers its residents a wide variety of educational choices — ranging from its multitude of elementary and high schools to several higher education options.

The majority of Oak Cliff is located in the Dallas Independent School District, which has nine high schools, nine middle schools and 54 elementary schools in Oak Cliff. In addition, a small portion of southeast Oak Cliff is located in the Wilmer Hutchins School District, and Wilmer Hutchins High School is located in Oak Cliff. Several neighborhoods in southwest Oak Cliff are located within the Duncanville Independent School District, which has one secondary and two elementary campuses in Oak Cliff.

Dallas Independent School District public school campuses include the cutting edge Dr. Yvonne Ewell Townview Center, which opened in the late 1990s and includes six of the school district’s top magnet schools.

In addition, Oak Cliff boosts a number of charter schools (state-supported public schools that are independent of a local school district). There also are a number of private schools (some church-related) and two private college preparatory high schools, Tyler Street Christian Academy and Bishop Dunne Catholic High School.

Mountain View in West Oak Cliff, Cedar Valley in Lancaster and El Centro in downtown Dallas are three campuses of the Dallas County Community College District that serve Oak Cliff. In addition to offering two-year associate degrees, these campuses offer numerous opportunities for continuing education and specialized training in a number of fields.

Oak Cliff also boasts two private institutions of higher education, Paul Quinn College (a historically African American four-year school) and Dallas Baptist University in West Oak Cliff — which offers bachelor, master and doctorate programs.

The University of North Texas System Center at Dallas opened in January 2000. It is the precursor of what will eventually become the University of North Texas at Dallas. The campus currently offers upper level and graduate courses along with a variety of certification programs. It will be located at the intersection of Camp Wisdom Road and Houston School Road in Oak Cliff, south of I-20.
