Dining and Attractions
Oak Cliff is home to a wide variety of dining establishments, including a number of restaurants recognized locally as among the best in Dallas (notably La Calle Doce, Hattie’s and Grill 400). Restaurants in the historic Bishop Arts District are favorites among the Dallas dining-out set.
With the area’s burgeoning Hispanic population, Mexican and Latin American cuisine abound, and seafood and barbecue are also favorites.
Oak Cliff is home to the spectacular and growing Dallas Zoo, easily accessible right on I-35 at Marsalis and also on DART’s West Oak Cliff light rail line (which stops right across from its entrance). A major entertainment destination in the last decade, the zoo has undergone a major expansion and renovation that began in the early 1990s with the opening of the Wilds of Africa (a gorilla habitat that can be viewed from a monorail). Since then, it has opened other major exhibits (including the Kimberly-Clark chimpanzee Exhibit and Exxon Endangered Tiger Exhibit) along with several smaller ones. In addition to being a place for entertainment, the Dallas Zoo is also one of the community’s major educational institutions, and is at the forefront in research and breeding programs for a number of species — particularly reptiles.
The Dallas Nature Center is another of Oak Cliff’s jewels. Located in far southwest Oak Cliff, the center offers acres of pristine land for hikes, nature walks, educational seminars and workshops.
Restaurantes y Atracciones
Oak Cliff tiene una enorme selección de establecimientos de comidas, hay desde negocios familiares, hasta grandes cadenas de restaurantes. Algunos de estos restaurantes como, La Calle Doce, Grill 400, son reconocidos como entre los mejores del área de Dallas. Los restaurantes ubicados en el Distrito de Artes Bishop, están entre los favoritos para salir a cenar fuera.
Debido a la gran población hispana que habita en la ciudad, en Oak Cliff predominan los restaurantes de comida latina; pero existe una cantidad enorme de opciones para escoger cuando se trata de comida, hay restaurantes de comida rápida, oriental, italiana, mariscos y carnes asadas.
Oak Cliff es el hogar del Zoológico de Dallas, el cual es uno de los mejores lugares de esparcimiento estilo África. Recientemente el zoológico inauguró nuevas exhibiciones, entre ellas la exhibición de chimpancés que está patrocinada por Kimberly Clark.
Otra atracción en el área es el Centro de Naturaleza de Dallas, el cual es perfecto para disfrutar la vida al aire libre, además ofrece seminarios y congresos educativos.
