The entertainment opportunities in Oak Cliff reflect the cultural diversity of the area. There are small, privately owned African-American and Hispanic art galleries and book stores scattered throughout the area, as well as mainstream facilities.
The city-supported Ice House Cultural Center (located in an historic old icehouse in North Oak Cliff) offers continuous arts-related programming, art exhibits and other cultural activities aimed primarily at nearby Hispanic residents.
Cinco de Mayo and Dies y Seis de Septiembre, both major Hispanic holidays, are celebrated in Oak Cliff with parades on Jefferson Boulevard and fiestas that involve all residents of the area. African-American Kwanzaa celebrations can also be found in Oak Cliff in the seven days after Christmas.
The International Museum of Cultures, which features the cultures of the undeveloped nations of the world, is located in far southwest Oak Cliff, and also presents a variety of cultural activities open to the public throughout the year.
Oak Cliff is home to half a dozen branches of the Dallas Public Library, and the Central Library is only minutes from Oak Cliff. The library presents a year-round program of entertainment, educational programs and exhibits for everyone.
The historic Texas Theatre on Jefferson Boulevard is currently under renovation, and will soon open to host live performances and other cultural activities.
Oak Cliff is only minutes from arts and entertainment venues in Dallas. The Dallas Museum of Art offers respected art exhibits, educational programming and musical programs. The historic Majestic Theatre offers live theater and musical entertainment. The Dallas Music Hall in Fair Park is home to the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Summer Musicals. The Smirnoff Music Center in Fair Park provides a terrific venue for outdoor concerts. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs at the world-class Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The Dallas Theatre Center and its Arts District Theatre offer a wide range of dramatic offerings. Deep Ellum is known for its trendy music and art scene, while the glittering West End offers entertainment for visitors and residents.
