Worship

The high community spirit and extraordinary amount of diversity emanating from Oak Cliff neighborhoods are impressive features not found in many places. This is distinct in the area’s rich spiritual community, which is represented by an array of houses of worship. In fact, Tenth Street in Oak Cliff was at one time listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the country’s largest concentration of churches along one street. While that most likely does not ring true today, people from all walks of life are still sure to find a place to practice virtually any religion. Small fellowships and larger congregations sit side-by-side here, many of which have been rooted in the community for more than a century.

The long-standing Catholic Diocese of Dallas has established five parishes in Oak Cliff, and the enduring Catholic Charities of Dallas maintains an integral presence in the community, operating in the downtown Oak Cliff area. The community is also home to several churches—many of which are new or are undergoing expansion in Oak Cliff—that predominantly serve the African-American population.

The International Linguistics Center, located in Oak Cliff, offers training programs for missionaries and helps indigenous people create the written word for their languages. In addition, the Christ for the Nations Institute, an international, interdenominational organization, has been devoted to training and equipping students from around the world in East Oak Cliff for more than 30 years..

Religion
