Northeast Lakeview College

HIGHER EDUCATION
Excitement reverberated throughout the Metrocom in late 2005 when a $450 million bond package was approved by the voters for upgrades to existing colleges of the Alamo Community College District. In that package was $125 million for a new college which will be located on 238 acres within the cities of Universal City and Live Oak with a projected opening date of August 2008. Now named Northeast Lakeview College, more than 6,000 students are anticipated when the new campus opens. The current Northeast Campus is located in Live Oak and can handle a student load of over 4,000. Plans on the new campus site also call for an upper level college as well. An early learning college, a partnership between the Judson ISD and the Northeast Lakeview College, will offer a five-year program in which students will receive both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree.

The Metrocom also is blessed with close proximity to numerous public and private universities, including Wayland Baptist University, the fifth-largest private university in Texas; St. Mary’s University; the University of the Incarnate Word, with a small campus in Live Oak; Trinity University; Our Lady of the Lake University; and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Additionally, Texas State University at San Marcos is within a short drive. These universities offer an assortment of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs.
