I am excited to welcome you to Rockdale, Texas-a town right in the middle of Central Texas. Rockdale was established in 1873 and has evolved over the years into a gentle mix of both the rural and urban life because of the proximity of surrounding metropolitan areas of Texas. Rockdale is a town of 5,253 people situated in the middle of Texas-60 miles from Austin, 45 miles from Bryan/College Station, 45 miles from Temple, and 75 miles from Waco. Because of the closeness of the cities, educational opportunities in these cities are an asset for Rockdale citizens. Educational institutions available to our residents are University of Texas in Austin, Texas A & M University in College Station, Temple College in Temple-with satellite sites at Taylor and Cameron, Baylor in Waco, and Mary Hardin Bayor in Belton.

As you experience the area, you will see that Rockdale is surrounded by lakes-Granger Lake, Somerville Lake, Georgetown Lake, and Belton Lake, which offer year round enjoyment.

As the representative of the Chamber of Commerce, I’d like to highlight a few items about our business community. ALCOA-Aluminum Company of America-is the main industry in Rockdale. The plant employs 1,400 plus people in the Milam county and surrounding areas. Other industry includes the TXU power plant, and the Hashem Juvenile Detention Center. But industry is not the only focus in Rockdale. We are a community thriving on the American dream, with many independent business owners operating in the town where they have their roots. Successful local businesses are located in homes, storefronts, and on the farm.

Rockdale also has a fine tradition of non-profit organizations. Many of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce members are local organizations, dedicated to the advancement of a quality lifestyle to raise their families and make their town the best it can be.
