The Rockdale School District includes a high school, elementary and junior high. The schools emphasize the basics: reading, language arts, and mathematics augmented by music, art, and physical education. The student teacher ratio averages 16.5:1. In addition to extracurricular activities, including team and individual sports and academic and special interest clubs, the school district also provides a diversity of special programs: half-day pre-kindergarten, speech therapy, reading recovery for Grade 1, ESL, comprehensive technology support, tutorials on all campuses, and adult and community education. The New Life in Christ Christian Academy offers students quality education supplemented by religious instruction, and the Milam County Christian Home Educators gives students and parents another educational alternative. Rockdale graduates between 50 and 60 ministers each year from its accredited seminary, The Institute for Teaching Gods Word. The seminary offers doctoral, masters and bachelors degrees and attracts students from as far away as Mississippi. The citys close proximity to large cities offers college-bound students a leisurely trip to some of the best universities in the nation such as the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University in College Station, Baylor University in Waco, and Southwestern University in Georgetown. Blinn Junior College in Brenham and Temple College in Temple attract a large number of students from the Rockdale area. The junior colleges have a close working relationship with Rockdale High School.
