The natural beauty of this West Texas region is showcased through several outdoor attractions. The downtown River Walk, recognized as one of the most impressive features of San Angelo, is lined with blooming gardens, a recreational trail, a unique children’s playground and a nine-hole golf course. The International Water Lily Garden, Paint Rock—home to some of the city’s oldest artifacts, including 1,000-year-old Indian pictographs—and the San Angelo Nature Center are among some of the natural gems of San Angelo. Adding to all of this are Lake Nasworthy and Twin Buttes Reservoir, perfect for boating, fishing and watersports, and the 7,500-acre San Angelo State Park, which features ample opportunities for hiking, hunting, birding, cycling, horseback riding and more.
