The City of Weatherford strives to ensure a quality community through services and development from the following departments: Administration, Animal Shelter, Code Enforcement, Consumer Health, Customer Service, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Library, Parks & Recreation, Planning, Police, Sanitation, Transportation & Public Works and Utilities, which includes the Electric and Water/Waste Water departments. In addition to general city services, the City of Weatherford owns and is responsible for the operation of: the Animal Shelter, Chandor Gardens, Cherry Park Pool, First Monday Trade Days, Lake Weatherford, Public Library and Weatherford Electric.
The City of Weatherford operates under a Council-Manager form of government, which the administrative and financial operations of the city are delegated to the City Manager, hired by City Council. The policy-making function of the City of Weatherford is the responsibility of the Mayor and four at-large City Council members, each elected to three-year terms by voters.
The City Council is also responsible for appointing members to other city advisory boards and commissions. The Council-appointed boards include: the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Board of Adjustment, Building & Standards Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Library Advisory Board, Main Street Advisory Board, Municipal Utility Board, Parks & Recreation Board, Planning & Zoning Board, Transportation Advisory Board and Weatherford Economic Development Authority.
