In a 1969 edition of a Wimberley Chamber of Commerce monthly newspaper, there was a classified advertisement inviting a doctor, any doctor, to come to Wimberley and set up practice. The ad even offered office, laboratory and pharmacy space.
The situation has changed, and today there are more than 13 physicians in 10 private practices in Wimberley. Specialties range from pediatrics and ophthalmology to internal and family medicine. Several dentists offer excellent dental care and Wimberley boasts four chiropractors providing non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation for chronic and acute pain.
Registered pharmacists take care of prescription needs at Brookshire Brothers supermarket and the Wimberley Pharmacy.
Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is a 113-bed acute-care, general hospital providing a wide range of healthcare services 15 miles from Wimberley in San Marcos. The CTMC staff of over 600 employees works with more than 170 active and consulting physicians to provide quality services to patients and their families. In addition, over 100 community members and interns from Texas State University – San Marcos volunteer their services to the hospital. CTMC is the only hospital and emergency room in Hays County, and it also births the majority of babies born in Hays County each year.
