
A strong sense of faith and family values permeates the region’s close-knit community. More than 250 churches and houses of worship serve the area’s diverse population – offering contemporary informal services, traditional worship services and active outreach ministries. All major religious denominations are represented.
Many congregations began in the 18th or 19th Centuries and continue to flourish. Some centuries-old church buildings are designated historic landmarks. Aquia Church, built in the 1750s, is one of the most significant and well-preserved Colonial churches in America.
