Lexington Higher Education
Rockbridge County is home to three reputable colleges. Washington and Lee University is the ninth oldest institution of higher learning in America and one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country. The Virginia Military Institute is the nation’s oldest state-supported military college and fourth oldest technical college. Southern Virginia University is a four-year coed college that offers a variety of academic programs.
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College holds classes at the Rockbridge Regional Center. Its main campus is located 30 miles west of Lexington in Clifton Forge.
