The Mount Vernon-Lee business region includes the busy Richmond Highway, a commercial thoroughfare stretching from the City of Alexandria through the

U.S. Army’s Fort Belvoir to Lorton, and the new, planned community of Kingstowne. At just under 8 miles long, the Richmond Highway corridor is home to more than 650 businesses, and accommodates as many as 80,000 vehicles a day. More than 105,000 people live in the highway’s primary area and those households have a median income of more than $70,000.

Taken together, these factors make Mount Vernon-Lee an excellent business location, with unlimited potential, primed for unparalleled growth and opportunity.

Retail and service industries represent 81% of Mount Vernon-Lee’s business sector. One of the largest employers is Fort Belvoir, with more than 19,000 soldiers and civilian employees.

Mount Vernon-Lee’s Chamber of Commerce provides vital support to this vigorous community. With approximately 400-plus members, it’s one of the largest Chambers in the entire Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.

As the voice of business in the Mount Vernon and Lee districts, the Chamber promotes economic development in several ways. It develops and promotes legislative positions on various business issues, and works closely with government officials to represent members’ concerns. The Chamber also offers networking, educational, and marketing programs so its members can maintain a competitive edge in the free market.

Business development gets an additional boost from the Chamber’s partnership with the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC). SFDC helps companies relocate to this area and to expand existing facilities.
