Citizens in Mercer County value tomorrow’s resources. Taxes here have been pooled to build and operate (9) elementary schools, (5) k-8 schools, (3) primary schools, (1) early learning center, (2) pre-kindergarten, (2) middle schools with (1) under construction, (4) high schools and a Vocational School (Mercer County Technical Education Center) for the 9,502 students in our boundaries. (Private and parochial options also exist for parents seeking alternative education routes.) Each building features broadband, wired and wireless technology needed for students to be better prepared for a global world.

Anyone wanting to extend their education after high school has a great opportunity to do so. Mercer County hosts two four-year institutions (Bluefield State College and Concord University), a two-year community college (New River Community & Technical College), Valley College and a new school under construction (National College).

We also provide the necessary support materials through our public libraries. The Princeton Public Library is rated one of the top libraries in the state.
