When tourists come to town they will receive a warm welcome. The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce is located on U.S. 2 (805 West Lake Shore Drive) The Chamber Office is fully equipped with brochures, pamphlets, books and maps of the City of Ashland, Ashland County, the entire Chequamegon Bay Area and Neighboring Counties in Northwest Wisconsin. The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, two miles west of Ashland, is a four-season facility, capturing the unique qualities of this multi-state region. An intriguing Objects Theatre, engaging exhibits and special programs are designed to tell the stories of the region's cultural and natural history.

The Chequamegon National Forest, no more than 15 minutes from Ashland's city limits, provides 850,000 acres of scenic landscapes, recreational activities, and is home to several hundred wildlife species.

In upgrading and maintaining a dozen park and recreation areas, the City of Ashland has Krehrer Park, a 36-RV campsite right on Lake Superior, close to the marina and downtown Ashland. The site provides a boat landing, swimming beach, playground, and showers. Prentice Park, with 19 campsites, sits on 100 acres within the city limits. Bayview Park and Maslowski Beach also are popular swimming parks. Many parks have artesian wells with natural spring water.

Tourists like to include a trip to the Apostle Islands, which are comprised of 22 islands and 12 miles of Lake Superior shoreline. Sights include wildlife and the largest collection of lighthouses anywhere in the National Park system.

Tourists visit year-round. Ashland is renowned for its skiing tradition and has some of the best cross-country trails in the country. All types of skiers, from the beginner to the experienced, enjoy skiing in this setting of amazing natural beauty.

There is downhill skiing nearby as well. Other winter sports include snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Summer activities include swimming, hiking, biking, fishing, and boating.

Ashland is home to the annual Book Across the Bay Cross-Country Ski Race, Chequamegon Woods to Water Relay Race, Big Granite Inline Marathon/Half Marathon, The Red Clay Classic Stock Car Race, The WhistleStop Marathon & Festival, and its annual Bay Days Celebration. Nightlife

The Bad River Lodge & Casino features big-city casino action, blackjack tables and progressive games. The lodge, convention center and RV park are attached to the casino.

Lodging options are abundant. Tourists may choose from national hotel chains, local motels, bed & breakfast, lakeside cottages, cabins and house rentals.ot only do they provide a wide-range of amenities, but also many offer spectacular views of Lake Superior.

There are plenty of dining choices. Many offer full-service, family-style meals. Some restaurants specialize in pizza or sandwiches. The Platter Restaurant is Ashland's oldest. Diners may enjoy their meals in a country Victorian setting.

There are many fun and friendly pubs within the City of Ashland. Spend the evening with friends enjoying microbrews from Ashland's own "South Shore Brewery" or enjoy a fine lunch or dinner at the "Deep Water Grille" located alongside of the microbrewery in one of Main Street's historic brownstone buildings.
