Recreation

Recreation

Get energized by taking advantage of one of the area’s many options for year-round recreation. In the warmer months, residents and visitors take to the greens at one of the region’s numerous public golf courses—all reachable within a 15-minute drive from the city.

From springtime through the cool fall months, outdoor enthusiasts take pleasure in fishing, canoeing and other water activities, along with beautiful areas designated for joggers, bicyclists and hikers. One such site is the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, a 30-mile paved trail stretching across Ozaukee County. Free for use, the trail is utilized for such diversions as biking, in-line skating, walking, running and cross-country skiing. For visitors, bike rentals are available. In addition, the City of Cedarburg has begun construction on the first phase of a new creek walk, which meanders along the scenic banks of Cedar Creek.

Golf

The scenery of this area provides gorgeous natural surroundings ideal for winter sports such as cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Four hills are designated for snow sledding, and the city operates an ice-skating facility equipped with a heated shelter at Boy Scout Park. In addition, the nearby Ozaukee County Ice Center offers an exciting, modern indoor ice-skating rink, comprised of an Olympic-size rink, a warming area, community room and four locker rooms. Rentals are available, as are a number of programs, including youth hockey, figure skating and “Learn to Skate” for youth.

The city oversees the maintenance and offerings of 15 parks, featuring such amenities as ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields and rental facilities for private parties, picnics and social events. A prime attraction is the combination outdoor water park and pool, which provides recreational entertainment to thousands of people each summer. A small “sandy beach” area for tots and a snack bar only add to the appeal.

Parks

In addition to operating these park sites, the Cedarburg Parks and Recreation Department affords residents a multitude of fitness and sports-oriented recreational programs for youth and adults alike all year long. Cedarburg’s Community Center Gym is employed for a number of these programs, and is also available for rental by community organizations.

Area seniors are also afforded options for recreation and socializing through the City’s Senior Center, which provides numerous services, programs, events and activities to those aged 55 and better. The center also offers outreach counseling services for families in need of further assistance. What’s more, a van, operated by volunteers, affords transportation for seniors in need of getting around town.
