
Agriculture has a substantial impact on the economy of both Fond du Lac County and the City of Fond du Lac. More than 4,000 jobs depend directly on the county’s agriculture and agricultural production.
The county’s 1,790 working farms (at an average size of 218 acres) account for more than $151 million in commodity sales annually, placing Fond du Lac County sixth in the state among the 72 counties. The farms are first in the state in production of winter wheat and fourth in production of sweet corn. The county is sixth in Wisconsin in the production of corn silage and alfalfa for hay and is 10th in oats for grain and soybeans.
Fond du Lac County’s 583 dairy farms have a total of 40,200 cows. Collectively, these dairy farms rank seventh in Wisconsin in milk production.
