
In an effort to bring back the flavor of the area’s first European settlers, Germantown’s retail sector is taking on a distinctively German appearance. The architecture of many of the village’s newest buildings reflect the traditional German “fach-werk” style.
This look of traditional Germany is encouraged by the Deutschstadt Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit community organization promoting the marketing of the community through its heritage.
Main Street in Germantown offers small shops with a German accent. Watch for future developments in this “Old World Main Street” of Germantown. The new Markt Platz features German-style shops set in a European atmosphere.
Washington Square Mall, Germantown Marketplace Mall, Village Plaza, Hillcrest Mall, and County Line Road retail shops provide conveniently located shopping facilities.
Germantown is home to a variety of restaurants, serving the tastes of all residents and visitors. From national fast food chains to locally owned family restaurants, patrons get value for their dollar. The Germantown area is home to over 50 restaurants within a 20-minute drive. Cuisine ranges from German to American steak houses, and from Chinese to down home country cooking. Fine dining is available at a number of well-known restaurants.
