Gemuetlichkeit Days celebrates the rich German heritage of this community. This annual event will mark its 35th anniversary in 2005. May Ball (held the first Saturday in May) is the traditional kick-off for Gemuetlichkeit Days. The king and queen for the year (which has been kept a secret) are announced to reign over the activities.

A three-day event is held on the second weekend after Labor Day. This is a family event with a German theme. Young and old dress in traditional German costume, and participate in contests for all ages throughout the weekend. Enjoy music and dancing to great bands, good food, fellowship and a huge parade on Sunday. Everyone is German for the weekend! More information can be found at www.gdays.org.

The Madison Classic Spring and Fall Car Show at the Jefferson County Fair Park are the biggest events, drawing tens-of-thousands. These two events are usually held the last weekend in April and the last weekend in September, respectively. For the car buffs, these shows have everything — from the hard to find parts to refurbished cars. Sunday is the day owners bring in their
beautiful show cars. For more information, go to www.jeffersonswapmeet.com.

The Jefferson County Fair, first held in 1853, was held in various places within the county in its early days. Since 1866, it has been held in Jefferson each July. The five-day event features fabulous rides, free grandstand shows and all the great 4-H projects that make a fair special. The County has done some extensive updating of the facilities over the past few years that has enhanced the park for all the functions held there throughout the year. Antique auctions are held regularly throughout the year, and flea markets are held during the winter months. There are also camping facilities available at the fair park. A calendar of events can be obtained by calling 920-674-7148 or visiting www.jeffersoncountyfairpark.com.

Jefferson’s annual Christmas Parade of Lights is truly an event you don’t want to miss. Beautiful floats decorated with hundreds of lights are entered in this holiday parade. Definitely awesome! The Chamber decorates Christmas trees with white lights and red bows, which are placed in the flower receptacles. Jefferson Utilities puts up the holiday banners and lighted snowflakes, and the Chamber sponsors a retailers window decorating contest. Everyone gathers in the city hall meeting rooms after the parade to listen to musical selections by local choirs, to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments and snacks.
