The City of Jefferson owns and maintains eight parks, totaling 40 acres of developed open space. An additional 36 acres slated for development will include walking paths, lookouts, playgrounds, open green space and wetland restoration.

The developed parks offer the following amenities: a Family Aquatic Center that features a pool with zero depth, heated water and a 120 foot water slide; 12 tennis courts; two baseball diamonds; three softball diamonds; two Little League diamonds and two basketball courts. Some facilities are lighted. There are sand volleyball courts, an ice skating rink, a skateboard facility, a warming shelter, playground areas and picnic shelters.

For the avid golfer, Meadow Springs Country Club offers 18 holes of scenic beauty and challenges.

There are numerous parks, boat landings and bike paths. The Glacial Drumlin Bike Trail is just north of the city, and runs from Cottage Grove to Waukesha. The trail is open to bikers, hikers and joggers during the summer and to snowmobilers and skiers during the winter.

The dam across the Rock River provides an excellent fishing area, and attracts anglers from all over the area. It’s worth the time to stop to see the Milwaukee Street Walk Bridge (constructed in 2001) and look at the engraved bricks on each side of the bridge.

For the bowler who has yet to roll that 300 game, the local bowling alley has 12 lanes to test your skill. In 2004, a new skateboard park was built. A paved speedway for racing enthusiasts is within a few miles.

The City Recreation Department offers over 40 year-round programs for youth, adults and senior citizens. The Senior Center provides monthly specialty day trips.
